* TERRAIN
The organisers are pleased to offer you exceedingly challenging and specific terrains that have not been used in any previous "Kāpa" event taking place near Alūksne. They are located in the central part of the Alūksne highland, about 200m above the sea level or somewhat higher. Relief with a vast diversity of features will alternate with marshes of all possible sizes and small rivulets. The terrains are crisscrossed by a relatively dense network of roads, rides and footpaths. The runners will have to decide between alternatives in order to choose the best route to the controls. The maps will require a detailed reading.

usma4    usma4    usma4    usma4    usma4
  • Stage 1 Coniferous (pine) forest prevails. Older and newer clearings and young forest plantations. Relief with medium-size features, here and there microrelief and steep slopes. A well-pronounced network of roads and rides. Runability mostly good, in some parts medium. A warning: there are remains of barbed wire fences from the soviet army times in some parts of the terrain, take care!

  • Stage 2 Pine forest prevails. Here and there fresh clearings or ones that have started to overgrow with trees. Mostly the relief will have large-size features with steep slopes that abound in a great diversity of detailed features. Maximum height difference 35 m. In the finish area there are different types of buildings and structures abandoned by the soviet army. Individual parts of the area are dangerously littered with scrap metal and pieces of barbed wire, look out! A sufficiently well-pronounced network of roads, footpaths and rides. Runability may vary, but mostly is good.

  • Stage 3 The race will take place in the outskirts of the town, where "old" fir-tree forest alternates with open areas. Sports facilities for cross-country skiing and biathlon make part of the map, hence ski trails with different types of surfacing and a shooting-range. Shortly before the finish the courses will be laid through the streets and the park. The area is demanding from the technical aspect both due to contour reading and runability. A very dense network of various types of roads and footpaths. The runners may have to cross roads with some traffic, so be carful! In several parts of the map the course will take the runners close to cultivated land plots and residential areas, therefore we remind you to behave according to the competition rules.

Map scale 1:10000 for all stages and all classes. Contour interval 2.5 m. The maps have been prepared on the basis of surface scanning materials by METRUM and orthophotos
